Getting to know you: Stacey Branson (Speech Language Pathologist)
Hi! I am the new Speech-Language Pathologist at Underwood. While this is my first year at Underwood, I have been with Wake County for 1 year and an SLP for 6 years. Last year, I was at Creech Road Elementary School. Prior to joining WCPSS, I worked in a rehab pediatric/ adult clinic and early intervention/ home health. I enjoyed working in both settings but I have always been drawn to serving kids in an educational setting.
I was born and mostly raised in Texas. I spent most of childhood in a town that had more cows than people! My family moved to Raleigh when I was 15 years old and I graduated from Broughton High School. I went to go back to Texas for college and attended Texas Christian University. There I discovered the profession of Speech Pathology and I knew instantly it was my calling. I graduated from TCU with a B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Child Development. Then I went to the University of Tennessee to get my Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology. After graduating from UT, I worked in middle Tennessee for 3 years before moving to Raleigh in 2015.
I am married to my wonderful husband, Adam, who works in the technology field. We have two children Violet, who is three, and Henry, who was born in October.
I feel so lucky to be at Underwood this year. It is such a wonderful school!

Library Notices
This year library notices have been given to classroom teachers 1 - 2 times a month. Hopefully this has
helped students to keep up with what books they have checked out and overdue. Beginning this week,
we are piloting a program in which families will receive a biweekly email with their student(s)' overdue
book(s). Students are encouraged to come talk with us immediately if they have a lost book - we are
happy to help find the book or schedule time to "work off" a fine. Our goal is to have all students able
to check out books!
ArtsPleasure Oh the Places You Will Go! Thanks to the specialists team for sharing this year’s theme at the Early Release! If you have not already, please take 30 seconds to fill out this Google Form to let the them know if you are willing/able to participate in the picture frame auction at ArtsPleasure.

Books Books Books- "When (children) have access to books, they read more and they read better. Period. It's not groundbreaking, but it's true." (from Miller's Game Changer: Book Access for all Kids) How many self-selected books do each of your students have in their desks? their book boxes? their book bags? For the first 4 months of school, Underwood students averaged 2 books checked out from the library per month. We can do MUCH better! Please encourage your students to come to the library to check out multiple books often...the more self-selected books students have at hand, the more inclined they'll be to read these books. MTAC is exploring ways to get students checking out more books - feel free to share your ideas.
A Great Resource- Have you heard of Unite for Literacy? It is free and allows you to choose books that students can read (and also listen to in their own language). Read more here to learn about the program. Please share it

Sunshine Squad may buy a snack every once in awhile, but we will not be able to provide a snack each time.
