  • Jamika Robinson- Jump Rope for Heart exceeded the expected goal!
  • Mrs. O'Loughlin, Mrs. Davis and Ms. Miller creatively accomplished their conferences (or most!) all in one afternoon!  They implemented student led conferences!

Lego Club- Due to low interest and enrollment, there will not be a Grades 2-5 Afterschool Lego Club this Spring at Underwood.

4 C's SurveyIf you have not already, please take a few minutes to reflect on our work as a staff with the 4 C's.  Our consistent message to students to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, critically think and be creative is something we need to ensure we are modeling.  All staff members are encouraged to take this survey

Classroom accommodations sign up:  If you notice there are several other testing situations occurring, please be mindful that we don't have a ton of extra staff to support separate setting.  It might be helpful to test on a different day.

Standards next year- The Math and ELA standards are changing slightly next year. Many of you have heard us discuss this over the past 2 years when the state agreed to these changes. At this point, we have reviewed/shared both the ELA and Math standards. Some grade levels will be touching on the ELA standards as a team in the upcoming weeks. Links to the resources shared: ELA and Math The math department has created some live webinars as well. Click here for information.

Please let Alexandria know if you would like any support understanding/digging into these new standards!

Feedback -If you have more feedback (things that have worked or things that could be better throughout the school year) you would like for us to consider, please feel free to email, discuss or fill out this form. https://goo.gl/forms/XNwhdAo6gU8lOfck1. This would include concerns and idea for next school year. Responses can be found here.

Clean School -In an effort to provide a clean and safe school, the custodial team has had on-going meetings to increase their support to make sure that our learning spaces are clean and supporting the students. Click on the link Customer service updates to see the custodial expectations. If you have a maintenance concern or need please email Mr. Marrow.  If you have a cleaning concern please email Ms. Mbalia. Mr. Marrow and Ms. Mbalia will be conducting weekly walkthroughs.

Scheduling Committee
It is that time of year to start planning for the next!
There will be an initial scheduling committee meeting on Friday May 18th at 7:45am.
Please send one representative from each grade level or area.

At this initial meeting please have prepared:
  1. Primary request/s for your team
  2. Suggestions for improvement
  3. Reflections on what has worked well

We will focus our work (primary needs) based off of the feedback from each area or grade level.
Realizing that this work is very important and will likely need more than one meeting time,
please be aware of the following dates and times for additional meetings:
Friday May 25th at 7:45am and Friday June 1st at 7:45am.

Please know that all opinions will be considered and that the ultimate scheduling decisions for next
year will be based on what is best for the school. Thank you so much for your time and insight!

Collaboration

Room Parent 2018-2019-  We have been working closely with the new PTA board, and they are trying to streamline all the work done within the school.  One of the discussions has been the consistency within classrooms as a room parent.  They asked for the following survey to be filled out so they can share this with Corie Jackson, our new room parent leader.

MClass-  The window for EOY MClass window opens May 14th and closes June 4th.  It is imperative that you organize a plan with your team that allows you to assess each other's students.  Additionally, we are asking that you assess your students that you feel will be in the red or yellow on the TRC prior to May 17th so we can get summer school letters distributed (by May 21).  Using the TRC as an indicator is new this year, and the county will need to establish a plan to allow for number of students that will be invited.

Critical Thinking

Testing Windows-  It's that time of year!!!  We know you have a lot on your plate and want to ensure we are providing proper supports.  We are working hard to find proctors for the EOG's outside of our school and are ensuring if we do have to pull them, they are pulled evenly!  Listed below are the windows for each test.  If you need help organizing your schedule, please reach out to Alexandria.

NKT-  May 16- May 31
MClass- May 14- June 4
EOY Math Assessments- Now until June 8th
Case 21 (2nd grade)- May 22 and May 23
EOG's-  May 29-June 5

Mclass - Teachers prior to assessing students on the iPads in Mclass, you will need to follow the directions that Christine sent to you.   You will now need to access your mClass assessments on your Ipad and laptop through the NCDPI Single Sign On (SSO) System on your iPad and computer.  Here are the two resources she highlighted in her email:

MTSS Plans-  All Tier II and III plans have to be reviewed and exited by May 31st, 2018 to allow time for conversion from EASi to ECATS/ECATS-MTSS.  Work with your case manager to ensure these plans have been exited properly.

Chromebooks
We are preparing for our roll-out of Chromebooks Monday!  In order to begin, we wanted to update you now as you plan your lessons for next week!

The new laptops will have the room number on them and are expected to be in your cart charging each night.  These laptops will remain with the classroom for their existence at Underwood.  So, if you move classrooms or grade levels, the cart/Chromebooks will not move.

After distribution to support staff, we are making an effort to ensure we all have access to enough technology. We are going to re-distribute the laptops from classrooms and put them on the carts (one upstairs and one downstairs).  Check-out will be similar to how we currently do check-out.  If you need help with this, please do not hesitate to ask.

Printing-  We are working on a system to help with printing from the Chromebooks.  Please be patient and creative (this is new to all of us!).  The first step solution is to have the student login to a laptop/desktop or send it to you.

Remember that completing the 3:1 canvas course is a staff  requirement. Below are the links to help you get started if you have not already done so.  Remember to turn in completion paper work to Alexandria when you finish the course.

Here is what Alex shared: an outline of the modules and suggestions of where to spend most of your time

Here are the summary slides Tanya created with instructions for getting enrolled in the canvas course.
